“This is a great adults-only hotel close to the beaches of Los Cristianos.” Colum McLornan, Friendship Travel.
Tenerife is the biggest and perhaps the most exciting of the Canary Islands, dominated by towering Mount Teide, the sleeping volcano in the centre of the island. From the hot, dry beaches of the south to the tropical forests of the north, there’s lots to see and do – well worth a longer stay.
Once a fishing village, the boats still bob in the pretty harbour of Los Cristianos, which is now a popular resort with a sophisticated feel, especially in the old town. Bright, brash Playa de las Americas, where the nightlife is wild, is a short taxi ride across the promontory.
Tenerife is well worth exploring, not only for its diverse landscape but because you can still find authentic Canarian villages, sleepy white-washed towns and quaint customs. The tiny island of La Gomera lies almost opposite our hotel, and makes a perfect day excursion. Many of Tenerife’s beaches are of local, dark sand.
If you find a dazzling golden stretch, it may well have been imported direct from the Sahara! Regardless, the sand is soft, the sun is bright and the winter tan is almost guaranteed!

3* Plus H10 Big Sur Hotel (Formerly Oasis Moreque)
We’re delighted to offer another well-managed H10 hotel in this winter programme. It enjoys a great location in the long-established resort of Los Cristianos, looking out over its own attractive gardens and the Paseo Maritimo, to the sea and the island of La Gomera.
It’s just a few steps from the hotel’s mini-golf course, over the promenade and onto the small sandy beach, while the resort’s larger Playa Las Vistas beach is the other side of the harbour, not more than 10 minutes walk away.
This adults-only hotel (yes, no kids!) re-opens for winter 2011/12 as an upgraded 3-star plus, with a sophisticated and restful atmosphere. The standard rooms are bright and fresh, each with a terrace or balcony plus a TV, ceiling fan and, at extra charge, use of a mini-bar and room-safe. The new name is - H10 Big Sur
The attractive swimming pool area has plenty of loungers and you can enjoy a snack from Ucanca terrace bar here, while the main Las Cañadas restaurant, with its indoor/outdoor terrace, is where our included breakfasts and buffet dinners are served.
Los Cristianos is a great spot, offering both the ‘old fishing village’ feel at its heart and all the facilities you could ask of a mature resort, while the hotel’s location is hard to beat. Night life here is relatively low key, but it’s an easy taxi ride to the neon lights of Playa del las Americas for those who want to party till dawn.
