Croatian Island Cruising ***

The Croatian coast is scattered with dozens of islands, like a strand of pearls linking Split and Dubrovnik. Each is spectacular in its own way, from historic Hvar to the wooded hills of Mljet. There’s a wealth of pebble coves, many of which can only be reached by boat, while tiny fishing villages cling to rocky outcrops – all lapped by the crystal clear Adriatic that makes swimming a sensuous pleasure.

Really, the only way to discover these islands is by boat, and we’ve opted for a friendly houseparty holiday on these characteristic, and often vintage, motor yachts. The pride of their Croatian owners, each winds its way between Split and Dubrovnik over the course of a week, dropping anchor here for a morning’s walking and sightseeing, and there for a lazy afternoon of sunbathing.

The Ships
  • Sundeck
  • Restaurant & Bar area
  • Approx 12 cabins
The Cabins
  • Private shower & WC
  • Porthole
  • Twin / Bunk berths
  • Beach towels

Each motor yacht has a crew of four or five, who act as hosts, taking care of everything from choosing the best route for the prevailing weather, to cooking lunch and finding the best spot for snorkelling.

As well as the stunning islands of Brac, Hvar, Mljet and Korcula, our route includes the Makarska Riviera and the ancient walled capital of Dubrovnik. In addition to daily swimming and snorkelling in various locations, there are opportunities for activities and excursions at extra cost, such as white water rafting on the Cetina River, or a guided tour of Dubrovnik.

With around a dozen cabins on each yacht, you can opt to have your own, or share with another Friendship traveller of the same sex at a lower price. The yachts welcome guests from all over the world, so you may well find yourself enjoying an international houseparty.

Our half board arrangements include a continental buffet breakfast each morning and – usually – lunch, with a beer or glass of wine (or soft drink) as part of the package. Of course, you’re able to buy other drinks from the bar.

On the first night, the crew hosts a barbecue on board: a great opportunity to get to know your fellow cruisers. On other nights, dinner is not included: a chance to explore the local cafes, bars and restaurants with your shipmates. The captain will have plenty of tips for local specialities to suit all budgets, from posh nosh to pizzas!

Please note, local port taxes of approx €20 are payable on arrival at Split.
