Mauritius

This dot in the Indian Ocean is more than paradise… Of course, there are warm blue waters.  Of course, there are powder-soft sandy beaches.  Of course, the friendly locals offer a true welcome.  But so do other islands in the Indian Ocean.  Mauritius is extra special because it has both beauty and variety in the landscape, and a diverse culture that is reflected in the local dishes, while your feet won’t be able to resist the beat of the local séga music.

4* Tamassa Hotel

Our hotel is in Bel Ombre, in the south-west of the island, where the white-sand, gently-shelving beaches are backed by sugarcane fields and mountains. As you can see, the Tamassa is set in spacious lawned gardens studded with coconut palms: it’s a smart 4-star oozing with contemporary chic, from the tropical décor to the tranquil Spa.

Vaulted wooden ceilings combine with trendy Ghost chairs in the Show Restaurant, open for breakfast and lunch, with an à la carte option at night.  La Playa, by the beach, offers more casual dining and Bar-B has a long list of cooling drinks, available until 11.45pm.

Rooms are brightly-decorated, with cool tiled floors, and feature a Queen-sized bed and spacious bathroom, with separate bath and shower.  Ask about upgrading to a room with a sea view.

With a laid-back atmosphere, there’s no pressure to do anything other than chill out and make the most of the elegant pools and the fabulous beach, but there’s a watersports centre offering not only windsurfing, kayaking, snorkelling and mini-sailing, but also waterskiing, all within the All-inclusive package.  Land-based activities include tennis, beach volleyball and petanque.

At extra cost there’s Scuba-diving, deep sea fishing and speedboat rides, while on dry land the gym has some excellent fitness machines, and bikes can be hired for local exploring.  Senses Spa, which has its own pool, offers a range of holistic treatments.

This is a superb hotel in a true tropical paradise, and we’re delighted to secure rooms for two specific departure dates, one before Christmas, and one before Easter.
