August in York (new)

Join us in August in a beautiful city that offers a thousand years of culture, haunted pubs, cobbled streets and boutique shopping. It’s an easy city to explore on foot, and within the ancient city walls you can explore the The Shambles, the elegant Minster itself and even a boat trip on the river.

Other attractions include Jorvik Viking Centre and the National Railway Museum - why not take the train to York? On Saturday we’ll organise an escorted city tour or one of the famous ghost tours (optional extra – ask the office). Add to this the range of bars and eateries that you would expect in a University town and you have the perfect recipe for a great weekend.

You have a choice of breaks, depending on how much time you have. Arrive on Friday for a 3-night bed & breakfast break which also includes dinner at the hotel on the first and second night  – we’ll choose a different restaurant (own expense) for Sunday night. Alternatively come on Saturday for the dinner and overnight at the hotel. Please note - All hotel bedrooms will be fully refurbished by July 2008.

New Forest Walking weekends - Lyndhurst

Hampshire during August, September and November 2008 & 20 March and 24 April 2009

Step out on our walking weekend in the New Forest – but don’t worry, you don’t need to be a hairy-kneed hiker to enjoy it. There are very few landscapes in this country that look the same today as they did a thousand years ago, but the New Forest is one of them, with ancient oak and beech woods hiding wild deer and shaggy New Forest ponies. The small town of Lyndhurst is 10 miles west of Southampton. It has a nice mix of pubs and shops and is the ‘capital’ of the Forest.

A local guide will tell us more about the area on Friday evening and will lead us on an 8 mile (approx) walk on Saturday, with a leisurely lunch break at a local pub (own expense). We’ll enjoy another (short) walk on Sunday morning. You do not need to be super fit, but do wear sensible walking shoes and bring a waterproof!

We include dinner (with wine) on Friday and Saturday nights, as well as breakfast each morning. We will have a Friendship quiz in the bar on Saturday night. There is lots to see in the area including the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu and the pretty village of Buckler’s Hard where Nelson’s fleet was built from local oaks.

Lyndhurst Park Hotel

Our 3-star hotel in Lyndhurst is small and welcoming with traditional service and contemporary furnishings (The hotel is currently being refurbished and is planned for completion by July 2008). The oak-panelled Tudor Restaurant is complemented by the Palm Room conservatory and contrasts with a contemporary bar. There is plenty of free car parking.
