An international travel organisation has predicted Kenya is to reap more from its tourism sector in 2012.
According to the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), the total contribution of travel and tourism to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is predicted to rise by 4.3 percent this year.
Recently appointed tourism minister Dan Mwazo acknowledged the significance of tourism to Kenya. He said: “Tourism is extremely important to the Kenyan economy and our government is committed to doing all we can to encourage its growth.”
The minister was also recently named a patron of the Africa Hotel Investment Forum (AHIF), a conference aimed at showcasing the potential of Kenya and other high-growth destinations across the continent. Mwazo added: ‘I see AHIF as a great opportunity to encourage the international hotel investment community to take a very serious look at Kenya.”
