Choosing which country to visit for a holiday has just become easier, as the travel publisher Lonely Planet has revealed its top destinations in Europe for summer 2019. From bustling cities to quiet beaches, you can be sure to find a European holiday perfectly suited to your taste.
The Evening Standard reports the reasons why people will fall in love with these holiday destinations. So, if you’re trying to pin down your next holiday destination, read on to find out which countries made the list, before taking a look at our selection of cheap holidays for singles.
First place on the list is High Tatras, Slovakia, which has been included thanks to its mythical landscapes and opportunities to watch wildlife. The list also includes the stunning city Madrid, in Spain. With intricate architecture and cobbled streets, it’s no surprise that the home of shopping and style is placed at number two on the list. Just like any destination on a Spanish holiday, Madrid has a plethora of tapas spots and cool cocktail bars, which are the key factors for why Spain secured the second position. The publisher also applauds its efforts for sustainable living, with schemes in place such as an increase in bicycle lanes and pedestrianised zones, to try and lower emissions.
France secured spot seven on the best in Europe list. Lyon is mentioned for its food-obsessed culture and beautiful dual rivers that run through the city. Croatia secures the tenth spot, as justified by the beautiful beaches of Istria, cycle tours, history and music scene.
