Croatia and Greece fare well in water quality report A report by the European Environment Agency and the European Commission has revealed the bathing spots across Europe that have ‘excellent’ water quality, with countries such as Croatia and Greece faring well.

More than 90 per cent of beaches in the two Mediterranean nations passed stringent requirements to secure the ‘excellent’ grade, whilst Spain, Italy and Portugal also registered levels of excellent water quality.

European Environment Commissioner Janez Potocnik explained why the report was of such concern for European countries.

She said: ‘A clear majority of Europeans are concerned about water quality issues, and want more information on this. We must therefore continue our work to ensure our waters are appropriate for all legitimate uses – from bathing to drinking – and that the overall aquatic ecosystem is in good health.’

Why not take a swim in any one of the fabulous destinations listed on the report whist enjoying some relaxing singles holidays?
