Paphos in Cyprus

Tourism professionals have found that Cyprus is one of the top hotspots for solo travellers, alongside Malta and Madeira. For this reason, the Paphos tourism board is going to be making individual tourists a top priority going forwards.

According to agents, bookings for solo holidays abroad have increased by 18 per cent, with the 2015 Visa Global Travel Intentions Study also noticing an upward trend. This same study found that one in five had travelled on their own during their most recent leisure trip, with an increasing number of women choosing to travel alone in 2015.

While many of those travelling alone often have specific destinations in mind, it was found that itineraries were often spontaneous choices upon arrival. Also, it is often easy to assume that solo travellers will be young and single, although a significant number are in fact married, or in a long-term relationship, which makes it difficult to categorise single travellers.
