The Tenerife Tourism Corporation has released figures for 2011 that show that last year was a record breaking period for the island.

A whopping 1,658,315 visitors travelled to the island from the UK, which is the highest since the previous record in 2005. These visitor levels were up 10.6% from 2010.

Both the summer and winter saw increased levels of visitors, with the summer seeing an increase of 21.2% and an increase of 21.2% during the winter period.

The statistics also showed that the hotel sector in Tenerife saw an increase, with 14% more tourists choosing this accommodation type.

These figures point towards a very healthy end to the current winter season and the rest of 2012.

The Tenerife tourism Corporation is also launching a new tourism strategy for the next four years to help continue these fantastic visitor figures.
