Reporter from The Observer enjoys Sicily HolidayLook no further than Sicily for great food, sun and beaches, says Ruaridh Nicoll from The Observer. The travel journalist recently spent a few days on the beautiful Italian island, lapping up all the Mediterranean wonders on offer there.

He flew into Palermo and was soon at his hotel, and already Sicily was having an effect on him. After passing fields and olive groves he settled into his hotel with some of Sicily’s finest lunch offerings of salad and wine.

After a lovely evening relaxing with an Italian dinner, the following morning was spent choosing which of the numerous beaches to visit. Instead of any sandy beach he chose to visit the Turkish Steps, a great expanse of white stone which provides a very different beach experience. Grinding the lumps of rock with mud apparently makes for a good beauty treatment, coming highly recommended by the locals.

Plenty of other sites in the area were explored, such as the temple ruins at Concordia, and the whole trip left Ruaridh feeling what he described as a sense of wonder. With reviews like this, Sicily looks set to be a favourite for people searching for holidays for singles.
