Tenerife Singles Holiday - our first at H10 Big Sur

I’m just back from hosting our singles holiday in Tenerife.  This was Friendship Travel’s first time in the resort of Los Cristianos, and I think that I can say that the guests thoroughly enjoyed their winter sun holiday.

As soon as I arrived at the H10 Big Sur, I had a big grin on my face!  It smells brand new and all the décor is just sparkling – you can tell it has just been refurbished from top to bottom and I had the feeling our single travellers wouldn’t be disappointed.

I spent the first few days in resort exploring the local area and making arrangements for the arrival of our guests.  Not only is the hotel shiny and new, but it is in a perfect location… five minutes walk to the beach and right in the centre of resort – so we had a great selection of bars and restaurants close by.

Arrivals day soon dawned so I headed for the airport to meet everyone.  In between flights landing, I did take the opportunity to sit outside and enjoy the glorious sunshine….well to be fair who wouldn’t, when back home it was damp and dark?

On the first evening, we all met in the Cactus Pool Bar for pre-dinner drinks, which was a great opportunity for everyone to meet each other.  We then moved into the Blue Bay Restaurant and enjoyed a good meal from the extensive buffet that was on offer.  We all liked having certain things cooked to order in front of us.  Everyone was quickly into holiday mode and the chat, the wine and the laughter flowed easily.

On Saturday night, the ‘Nightshift’ – Friendship Travel’s term for after-dinner fun – headed to Playa de las Americas where the highlight was a live band in Shenanigans… and just about everyone let their hair down on the dance floor.

During each day there were two schools of thought:  those who wanted to relax had a choice of the beach, the poolside or the chill-out zone on the hotel’s roof terrace which has fantastic views out to sea.  The active types threw themselves into aqua aerobics and Pilates, went to the gym or even signed up for a salsa class in the evening.  There were excursions too: a trip to Mount Teide, and a Jeep Safari on Mount Masca were just two of the options on offer.

The hotel puts on entertainment of one sort or another every evening, from Flamenco one night to Brazilian dancers on another (who persuaded Bill to show us his moves!), and on another occasion all the FT gang were up on stage at once.  It was a great week and we all agreed that Tenerife is a grand winter sun choice.
