There was a boost for Irish tourism yesterday after it was revealed trips to Ireland from overseas had increased by 2.7 per cent.
Figures released by the Central Statistics Office showed some 1,145,900 trips to the stunning country, 30,600 more than the same period last year.
The figures reflect an exciting time forIreland, which boasts what is widely regarded as one of the finest cities in Europe in Dublin.
Niall Gibbons, chief executive of Tourism Ireland, was pleased with the revelation, calling it a ‘positive start’ to 2012, whilst chief executive of Dublin Chamber Gina Quin added: “The decision by Government last year to create a new lower rate of VAT at 9 per cent was particularly important for the tourism sector, which has been significantly impacted out of the global recession.”
