A study from the Anadolu Agency has revealed that Turkey is now the sixth most visited country in the world.

The research highlighted that Turkey was the 20th most visited country in the world back in 2000, with approximately 10 million visitors coming to the country every year, but has now jumped 14 places to sixth with over 30 million holidaymakers coming to Turkey on family, couple and singles holidays from the UK and the rest of the world.

According to other data from the Ministry of Culture, Turkey was visited by 3.5 million Russians in 2013, 3.3 million Germans and 1.8 million Brits, which was a 4.4 per cent increase on the previous year.

The Turkish government have already announced more plans to increase tourism in the country and are aiming to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Turkish Republic by welcoming 50 million holidaymakers in 2023.
