This cultured country was ruled by the French for almost a century, and the post war years were a time of strife under the Khmer Rouge, resulting in the so-called Killing Fields. Now the friendly people of Cambodia welcome visitors to their elegant capital city, ancient temples, the mighty Mekong River and steamy jungles.

Our itinerary is as follows -

Day 1 Our scheduled flight leaves London Heathrow for Cambodia, with a change of aircraft in Vietnam.

Day 2 Land in Siem Reap, meet your guide and transfer to your hotel (2 nights). Unpack and head to the Foreign Correspondents Club for happy hour, followed by dinner (included).

Day 3 Discover Kampong Phluk ‘floating’ village by boat, and vast Tonle Sap Lake in the morning. Free afternoon in Siem Reap.

Day 4 Via Kompong Cham and Frenchcolonial Chhlong to the Mekong River, taking a ferry to the island of Koh Trong. Free afternoon to discover Koh Trong on foot, by bike or tuk tuk. (1 night).

Day 5 In search of fresh-water dolphins on the river, then to the pagoda of Sambok Mountain. Travel to Sen Monorom visiting a coffee plantation for lunch. With free afternoon (2 nights nature lodge)

Day 6 Into the jungle to meet elephants! An opportunity to ride one of the giants, and bathe it. This evening, a local village opens its doors for a glimpse of rural life: local food, drinks and customs shared by these friendly people.

Day 7 Travel via Skuon (known as Spiderville: fancy a fried tarantula?) to the capital city Phnom Penh (2 nights).

Day 8 Toul Sleng museum and Choeung Ek ‘killing fields’ in the morning; city tour in individual cyclos in the afternoon.

Day 9 Free Day to discover the city, Royal Palace & Silver Pagoda, National Museum and markets.

Day 10 Travel to Kampong Thom with you free to enjoy the afternoon as you wish. (1 night).

Day 11 At Kampong Thom we visit the 6th century Sambor Prei Kuk complex and enjoy lunch before returning to Siem Reap.(3 nights)

Day 12 The world-famous temples of Angkor Wat, Ta Prhom, the walled city of Angkor Thom, Terraces of the Leper King and Elephants, the Baphuon and the Bayon. Tonight, a Cambodian ‘Circus’ visit combines music, theatre and acrobatics!

Day 13 Free day to explore (your guide has lots of ideas). A farewell dinner is included tonight.

Day 14 Free time until evening flight home.

Day 15 Morning arrival at London Heathrow.

The hotels are 4-star quality in the towns, plus a chic lodge in the jungle (your own room at each). We include breakfasts, first night and last-night dinners, and a few other meals in out-of-the-way places. For other meals, your guide will introduce you to cheap and tasty street food and local restaurants: allow £10-£15 per day.
