This attractive 4-star hotel is between the Buckinghamshire towns of Gerrards Cross and Beaconsfield is so easy to reach - well-connected by road, rail and air. The smart public areas – which are beautifully-decorated at Christmas – offer plenty of space for chatting and there’s an excellent spa. This is a relaxed, laid-back break with no need to pack high heels or black tie, though of course if you want to dress up, no-one will stop you!

Christmas Eve (Friday)

The friendly hotel staff welcome you on Christmas Eve, with tea/coffee and a mince pie or slice of cake to warm you up after your journey. Rooms are available from mid-afternoon, so there may be time for a swim before getting ready for dinner.

Meet your Host in the bar for pre-dinner introductions, before we move to our private room for 2-course dinner with wine at sociable, yet well-spaced tables. The hotel’s DJ invites everyone on to the dance floor afterwards.

Christmas Day (Saturday)

Start today’s festivities with a leisurely breakfast and perhaps a walk on one of the local footpaths. Do leave room for our 4-course traditional Christmas lunch – turkey with all the trimmings accompanied by wine, with the compliments of the season. Of course the hotel provides alternatives for vegetarians and vegans – just be sure to notify us in advance.

After lunch, there’s a mildly competitive quiz devised by your Host, though you may prefer to use the complimentary WiFi in your room to catch up with family or friends.

We lay on a light buffet supper at 7pm and have a relaxed evening together in the bar.

Boxing Day (Sunday)

Those on the 2-night break depart after breakfast, but most guests will surely opt to enjoy this long weekend, taking advantage of the hotel’s facilities and easy access to places of interest.

Lunch is not included today, so why not get out and explore this corner of the Chilterns? Burnham Beeches Nature Reserve is less than 5 miles away, with 540 acres of woods, heathland and wetland to explore on well-marked paths. Alternatively, the Iron Age hill fort on the edge of Gerrards Cross is ringed by ancient trees and makes for a great shorter walk. The River Thames at Cliveden, where the National Trust manages the gardens linked to the luxury hotel, is a drive of about 6 miles. In nearby Chalfont St Giles, the modest cottage where 17th century poet John Milton lived is another option.

This evening, we include a 2-course dinner with wine ‘on the house’. Afterwards, there are plenty of quiet corners for a chat as well as the smart bar where an impressive range of whiskies offers plenty of choice for a nightcap.

27 December (Bank Holiday Monday)

Depart after a leisurely breakfast, perhaps tempted by ‘the full English’ as fuel for your onward journey. While rooms need to be vacated by 10am, there’s no need to rush off so there’s time for a last swim in the pool or session in the jacuzzi.

The Crowne Plaza Gerrards Cross Hotel - A £20 million pound refurbishment by the Crowne Plaza group has created a sophisticated 4-star hotel with welcoming public areas, a ‘signature whiskey cellar’ and modern British cuisine in the smart 1269 Restaurant.

From the outside, the hotel has a Hollywood mansion feel: no surprise given that Pinewood Studios is just down the road and the area is popular with British stars of screen and stage: the hotel hosted the wedding of the Rolling Stones’ Ronnie Wood to his model wife Jo.
Today the Wave Spa & Wellness Centre has an indoor pool, hot tub, sauna and steam room, a large gym with all the work-out tech you can imagine, as well as a Rasul Mud therapy room and four treatment rooms where ESPA products are used.

The Crowne Plaza Gerrards Cross is in an ideal spot beside Buckinghamshire’s ‘old’ London road, the A40 between London and Oxford. The hotel is extremely easy to reach by road, rail and even air for guests flying in from Scotland or Ireland.
Gerrards Cross railway station is a 5-minute taxi ride and junction 2 of the M40 is a similar distance.
Heathrow airport is a reasonable 15-20 minute taxi ride (budget £40 each way).
There are a plenty of green spaces nearby, such as Bulstrode Iron Age Camp and Burnham Beeches, while Windsor Castle and the Thames are also within easy reach.
Nearby Pinewood Studios is not open to visitors, but Warner Bros Studios offers a fantastic behind the scenes tour for Harry Potter fans and is within 30 minutes’ drive.
