Algarve Beach

Budget carrier Ryanair has confirmed its intention to significantly expand the number of passengers travelling through Faro airport, highlighting the popularity of the Algarve as a fantastic holiday destination.

With a host of attractions and as many as 300 days of sunshine a year, it’s clear to see why Portugal’s southern coast has been such a popular destination for singles getaways for over 40s throughout the year.

Algarve a key area for growth

While the airline had already catered for 1.8 million people up until July 2015 and is responsible for 30 per cent of all flights to and from the airport, Ryanair head of sales and marketing for the Iberian Peninsula, Jose Espartero, has outlined the Algarve as an area with considerable room to grow and is keen to cater for 1.9 million passengers in 2016.

The company currently has nine planes operating to and from the airport, although Mr Espartero has suggested that this number could increase in line with future growth.
