Here’s a Guest Post from Steve Harris, Friendship Travel Host in Portugal
This has been Friendship Travel’s fifth season of singles holidays in the Algarve, at the friendly Velamar Hotel in Olhos d’Agua. But while it’s a long-established favourite with Friendship guests, it has been my first as a Host.
I’ve lived locally for many years, and hope I’ll never leave – there’s something irresistible about the combination of pristine sandy beaches, the fresh aqua green of the Atlantic and the pretty fishing villages that dot the coast.
Apart from meeting so many interesting people each week over the last three months, I’ve had great fun helping our single travellers make the most of their holidays by helping with sightseeing arrangements by day and at night seeking out some fantastic little restaurants for dinner. The quality and value of the food on the Algarve is one of the area’s great attractions as far as I’m concerned: fresh-caught sardines for 5 euros anyone?!
Week by week with our guests, I’ve explored the little rocky coves around Olhos d’Agua and walked beneath the fragrant eucalyptus and pine trees to the lovely beaches at Falaisa, Maria Luisa and Santa Eulalia. On a couple of weeks, I’ve even walked as far as Albufeira – 90 minutes away for guests who really like to stretch their legs!
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my first season as Host here, and am glad to hear that plans for Friendship Travel’s sixth season on the Algarve are already in place. So if you fancy a singles holiday on one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world, you know where to come!
