fig tartEarlier this month, the Algarve hosted the World Travel Awards Europe Ceremony 2012 and, as one of Portugal’s most popular destinations, it was certainly a fitting place to hold it.

Guests at the red-carpet event were invited to try out a number of things that the Algarve is famous for, including a golf tournament on Quinta do Lago South Course which is the region’s best championship course.

Food is another area in which the Algarve presents itself as a wonderful holiday destination, with figs and oranges growing in abundance as well as strawberry trees, cork oak and carob beans. A lesser known fact is that the Algarve is the birth place of ‘piri-piri’ chicken, a dish that has even sparked its own restaurant chain in the UK.

The Algarve holds plenty of opportunities for those looking for holidays for singles, and delicious food and great golf opportunities are just 2 of the attractions of the Algarve.
