Barcelona has been nominated for the award of Europe’s Leading City Destination 2017.

The nomination comes from the World Travel Awards who have unveiled the year’s nominees for the 2017 event.

The Spanish city is among lofty company for this particular award, with Amsterdam, Berlin, Geneva, Lisbon, London, Moscow, Paris, Rome, Saint-Petersburg, Venice, and Vienna, all being acknowledged.

The 12 nominees are representing their countries during this year’s World Travel Awards which also include categories such as Europe’s Leading Island Destination and Asia’s Leading City Break Destination.

Barcelona is also nominated for Europe’s leading airport and Europe’s leading cruise port.

It’s no surprise to see Barcelona included in this year’s European city nominees, with the area being a consistently popular destination for singles on holiday.

Barcelona is home to many famous and historical attractions. Sites such as the Sagrada Familia – Antoni Gaudi’s infamous unfinished church – and Barcelona FC’s titanic football stadium, the Camp Nou, being two of the most iconic.

The Picasso Museum is also a highlight for those travelling to the area, and is the city’s most famous museum. Showcasing a collection of Picasso’s early work, it provides a fascinating glimpse into one of history’s most iconic artists.
