According to the latest figures from the travel association ABTA, while beach holidays are still very popular amongst Britons of all ages, it is the European city break that is now becoming the favoured choice, with cruises also on the up.

25-34 year olds proved to be the group most in favour of the chic city break, with 48 per cent reported to have taken this type of holiday in the past year. Singles holidays city breaks are quickly becoming some of the most fashionable getaways within this age group, while all-inclusive holidays are also on the rise.

The study found that Spain was the most popular destination for 2013, with 9.8m UK visitors taking to the country in the past 12 months, with France, Italy and the USA closely following suit. These figures show promise for next year, as 44 per cent of people surveyed said they were looking to take a beach holiday in 2014, whilst 43 per cent were in favour of a city break.
