Europe Maintains Top Spot as World Travel Destination The United Nation World Tourism Organisation recently released its annual tourism Barometer, which once again showed that Europe is the most popular travel destination in the world.

The report highlighted the fact that tourism in the region saw an increase of 2.3% in 2012, with an estimated 400.1 million visiting various European countries on both group and solo holidays. Particularly popular areas included the Southern Mediterranean, which saw another year of growth.

The European Commission also seems determined to maintain this top position in 2013, with the launch of a new tourism campaign titled: ‘Europe – Whenever you’re ready’. The new campaign looks to remind international visitors of the wealth of history and culture in the region, inviting them over to discover the old continent. The project also points out the ease with which you can travel in Europe and highlights the benefits of the single currency.
