Figures suggest European city breaks on the riseNew figures suggest that European city breaks are becoming an increasingly popular holiday option for travellers, a great cultural experience for those on solo holidays.

Urban tourism on the continent grew by 5.9% according to 2011 figures, and various cities also reported impressive growth rates. For example, Barcelona achieved the highest year-on-year growth rate of 10.5% and Madrid featured in the top ten for increases in terms of bed nights. The report by European Cities Marketing suggests that short city breaks are proving to be one of the most dynamic aspects of European tourism and are likely to retain their popularity with travellers.

European city breaks are popular for many reasons, one of them being the diversity of cultures available on the continent, another being the colourful history behind these cultures. Dining experiences, art museums, nights at the theatre and each individual attraction differ from city to city, providing a wealth of experiences to have in the bustling centre of a European city.
