The islands and sun of Greece are still enticing tourists in large numbers as recent data shows a strong travel business in the last year. More importantly, the readers of Condé Nast Traveller UK magazine have recently voted Greece as the best country in the world to visit.

Greek Isles

As part of the magazine’s Readers’ Travel Awards, the Mediterranean nation gained the top place in the list. Voters listed the weather, the islands and hospitality as the primary reasons why travelling to Greece is so amazing. The country is also a prime destination for great solo holidays.

The full results of the awards will appear in the October issue of the magazine.

The award comes at a great time for Greece as they recently announced the country is expecting a strong 2016 in terms of travel and tourism. This year, the Greek Tourism Association expects as many as 27.5 million people to visit Greece, including cruise ship passengers.

Tourists love the promise of sun-soaked islands and postcard-perfect settings when travelling to the Mediterranean nation.

The other two countries receiving attention from the Condé Nast readers were Italy and the US.

The summer has been very good for Greek tourism. They reported a high number of last-minute bookings at some of the most popular resort destinations. According to data announced by the Greek Tourism Federation, the number of international arrivals at the country’s main airports were up by 9.1 per cent in July of this year in comparison to the same time in 2015.
