Heathrow Improving EfficiencySingles holidays could see an increase this summer due to improvements to the Heathrow flight systems.

The airports operators, BAA, say that the £5m system will help cope with the arrival of passengers during the Olympic Games, which will improve the airport for everyone.

According the Financial Times, the software allows “real-time sharing of flight data between BAA, airlines, baggage handlers and air traffic controllers”.

The FT reported BAA’s Head of Airside Activities at Heathrow, Tim Hardy, as saying that the technology would mean that aircraft should spend a reduced amount of time on taxiways waiting for take-off, cutting airlines collective fuel bills by £10m a year and reducing annual carbon emissions at Heathrow by 30,000 tonnes.

He said the move would also reinforce the argument for a third runway at the airport because Heathrow will be running to the highest possible standards.

Passengers travelling for business or pleasure will benefit from shorter waiting times, meaning your holiday could start sooner than you think!
