Hope builds around Madrid’s bid for 2020 Olympics The Spanish economy has been experiencing well documented issues during the global financial crisis, but hope may be on its way in the form of a bid for the 2020 Olympics by its capital city Madrid.

The stunning Spanish city, a popular destination for tourists around the world, has recently emerged as the frontrunner among the three cities going gunning for the honour of staging the quadrennial event.

Should the bid prove successful, it will provide a boost to the city’s tourism sectors according to Ignacio Fernandez, CEO of Madrid Visitors and Convention Bureau.

He said: “Madrid already has a good sporting image in Asia, thanks to its football teams, especially Real Madrid, and [winning the host city rights for the Olympics] should help a lot in attracting tourists from what is a very significant market.”

A popular destination for European city breaks, it could be a great city to visit whilst on your singles holidays to the country.
