Jamaican ministers look to capitalise on sport tourism potential On the back of a dominating display at the London 2012 Games, Jamaica is looking to capitalise on the vast potential of sport tourism on the island.

The newly created Sports Tourism Independence Committee (STIC), which bring together the work of the Jamaica Tourist Board and the Ministry for Tourism, will work towards fulfilling the island’s potential as a major sport tourism player.

The committee’s mandate is to create a host of sports-focused events and activities in conjunction with both local and overseas interests, according to tourism minister Dr Wykeham McNeill, who announced the developments at the launch of the Jamaica Soccer Cup Tournament held at the Wyndham Kingston Hotel.

The announcement could further boost the already burgeoning tourism industry in Jamaica, which combines some rustic traditions with white-sand beaches, beautiful weather and carnival atmospheres.
