From costing £540 to stream a 30-minute TV show, to £60 for browsing the internet for just 20 minutes, these are some of the extortionate charges people could be faced with for using their phones in all areas outside of Europe.

While charges for usage within European Union (EU) nations have been slashed by more than half, countries outside of the EU can still charge considerable amounts.

There a number of ways in which holidaymakers can avoid such costs, including disabling data roaming, turning off automatic weather updates and only connecting to the internet in complimentary WiFi areas.

Bearing in mind these tips could mean that travellers are not left with considerable bills after arriving home from their singles holidays.
