New giant Mosque planned for Istanbul A giant Mosque will be built in Istanbul that will be visible from all parts of the city, according to Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Measuring at 15,000 square-metres, the mosque will be built on a tract of land in Istanbul’s Camlica district, and will include facilities underneath for the building of traditional crafts.

Prime Minister Erdogan confirmed the details have almost been mapped out. He said: ‘The planning work is nearing completion. I believe the bulldozers will begin working within two months. This giant mosque in Çamlıca was designed so as to be visible from all parts of Istanbul.’

Providing work goes ahead with the Mosque, it could represent a fantastic addition to the famous Istanbul skyline, and will help boost the country’s tourism sector, which has become particularly strong in recent years.
