Cyprus and Denmark were chosen to be the countries that would pick one of their cities to be a host city for the European Capital of Culture for 2017. Paphos was chosen due to its ability to devise a cultural programme which would have a lasting impact on the development of the city, as well as featuring a strong European dimension.
The European dimension is shown in the chosen themes that Cyprus will feature in its programme throughout the year, and Paphos in particular was chosen as the judging panel believed that the city would provide a cultural experience that is both captivating and informative.
There is plenty to see and do in Paphos which make it the perfect choice as a city of culture, including a vibrant harbour, ancient ruins, wineries and plenty of golfing opportunities too.
