According to new figures from the National Statistics Institute, Portugal saw record high tourist figures for 2011, their highest since 2008.

Even though the country has seen financial problems in recent times, tourism in the country seems to be fairly healthy. Hotels and Restaurants have worked extra hard to retain the numbers of tourists visiting by offering discounts and special offers.

This technique seems to have worked as the number of foreign visitors staying in the many Portugal hotels rose to 7.44 million which tops their previous records of 7.19 million in 2010.

The revenue from these visits resulted in 1.91 billion Euros in revenue which was below the previous high of 1.96 billion in 2008,  just before the start of the world wide economic troubles.

Portugal’s tourism is also benefiting from many Portuguese staying in their own country, rather than travelling abroad to help save money.

Portugalmakes for a great destination for singles holidays, with golden sandy beaches, excellent golf courses and historic towns there is something for everyone to enjoy.
