Portuguese tourism has received a welcome boost after it was revealed the country’s resorts, cities and companies had been nominated for a total of 26 awards at this year’s World Travel Awards.
Announced ahead of the 19th anniversary of the competition, with the Grand Final due to take place at the Oberoi Gurgaon in New Delhi, India on 12 December, the Algarve region proved to be a leading light for the country, receiving 10 nominations on its own.
Renowned for its stunning coastlines and beautiful views, the Algarve has been an immensely popular tourist destination since the 1960s, primarily because of its beaches, Mediterranean climate, safety, cuisine and relatively low costs. It is also home to a network of brilliant golf courses, a popular pastime for any of those holidaying to the region.
