There has been a sharp increase in the number of people arriving at Sharm El-Sheikh airport so far this year, with figures apparently up by 55 per cent on the same period in 2011.

One of the country’s most senior aviation figures, Hassan Rashed of the Egyptian Holding Company for Airports and Air Navigation (EHCAAN), noted how the encouraging numbers represent a significant improvement in the fortunes of the area’s tourism industry. This news has been echoed by other, similarly impressive, results throughout Egypt.

The airport is also shortly set to expand further, with construction work to raise its capacity to an incredible 10 million passengers per year set to begin in the near future.

If you are looking for great solo holidays, then Sharm El-Sheikh could be a great destination to discover. A haven for anyone interested in water sports, this vibrant city and its naturally beautiful coastline is consistently popular with all different kinds of visitors.
