The Algarve is the perfect holiday destination for cheap singles holidays. With gorgeous scenery, stunning beaches and fun-filled activities, it has everything that you could possibly dream of. What’s more is that the cuisine on offer here is second to none, as was revealed in October.
Last month, the 13th annual Aurum Awards for the European Congress of Oenogastronomic Brotherhoods (CEUCO) took place in Athens and amongst the awards that were given out, the Algarve received the title of ‘Best European Region in Tourism and Gastronomy’.
The awards, which took place from the 19th-21st October 2018, were created in 2005. With an aim to shine a spotlight on the produce and recipes from countries across Europe, the awards showcased the gastronomic identity of each region, identifying some of the best places for food.
The president of the Algarve Tourism Region, João Fernandes, spoke after the event: “The distinction of Best European Region in Tourism and Gastronomy 2018 arises when the Algarve is strengthening its offer of culinary and oenological tourism. This award gives us recognition and perseverance to continue to enhance, preserve and promote our gastronomic and oenological heritage, divulging the region through dishes and experiences around the table. And the victory is even sweeter because it has been attributed by those who share a passion for gastronomy and wines, as a cultural element and a symbol of identity”.
Fernandes went on to say that they have “seen the Algarve consolidating its culinary and oenological offer, as a strategic product for the development of tourism in the region, throughout the year and throughout the territory.”
The Tourism Region of Algarve (RTA) spoke after the event, stating: “the Algarve’s gastronomic flavours and know-how have conquered millions of people all over the world and are one of the Algarve’s most important tourist attractions and an important cultural expression of the region.”
Also praised at the awards was Infante Panorâmico, in Praia Verde (Castro Marim), which won “Best European Restaurant 2018”.
