The Balearic Islands have enjoyed the highest rate of tourism expenditure for the last five years, a recent report has revealed.

From summer holidays for singles to family breaks later in the year, Mallorca has long been held in high regard and is considered among the best holiday destinations in Europe. With this in mind, it’s no surprise that so many people are heading to the island in search of fine Mediterranean sun.

Unveiled this week by data published by the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Energy, it was revealed that each tourist who visited the island during the first five months spent on average €108.90 per day – a healthy increase on the €93.40 spent each day during 2010.

The total amount of revenue between January and May was €2.17 billion, a figure considerably higher than recent years. The report collated information relating to several sectors of the island’s tourism industry, including hotels and transport – both public and private.
