Wanting to go on a culture soaked holiday to France but can’t decide where? Well why not try Bordeaux, after Lonely Planet voted it the number one city to visit in 2017.
A number of factors contributed to its placing, including the opening of the La Cité du Vin, where wine comes to life through an ‘immersive, sensorial approach.’
Bordeaux is famous for its wine, with some of the world’s best vineyards heralding from this beautiful region of France, it is little surprise that this port city is such a popular solo holiday destination.
Also, the LGV Sud-Ouest line, a high-speed railway line between Tours and Bordeaux is expected to be completed in mid-2017, which will reduce travel time to Paris to just two hours and will connect Bordeaux with Europe’s high-speed train network.
“They used to call her the ‘Sleeping Beauty’, but – though she’s hit the snooze button a few times – Bordeaux is now wide awake and ready for action,” said Lonely Planet, which has over 40 years in the industry and is the world’s most successful travel publisher.
Other notable inclusions to the list include the world’s first capital city, Lisbon, which has become one of the most fashionable destinations in Europe and Los Angeles, which thanks to the new metro line, is becoming a popular cultural destination.
